The Snow Queen is arguably the most famous fairy tale by H.C. Andersen. The authors of the libretto retold the story in a way that allows the audience to laugh, be entertained, and enjoy the beautiful fairy-tale atmosphere. The musical is enhanced by the music of composer Zdeněk Barták, in an impressive arrangement by Daniel Barták. Daniel Barták also took on the role of HE in the musical.
The viewer really doesn't have time to get bored, the plot has pace, energy, and tension as to how everything will turn out. The main theme is the great love of Gerda and her adventurous journey to rescue her beloved Kay. Unlike the original fairy tale, Gerda and Kay are not children, but young people who are about to get married. The Snow Queen herself is a contradictory personality – she struggles between good and evil, which are embodied in the musical by two characters – SHE is evil and HE is good.
This musical was also released on CD in 2014, produced by Daniel Barták and is, of course, available online at Supraphonline.
